Moka Pot

Moka pot coffee is bold, rich, and intensely flavoured, stronger than filter coffee but slightly less concentrated than a traditional espresso. It produces a thick, full-bodied brew with low acidity, deep roasted notes, and a naturally sweet finish. It's the kind of coffee that fills the room with aroma the moment it hits the heat.

Method

Step1 : Heat the water
Heat 150 milliliters filtered or bottled spring water (35–85 PPM) of filtered water separately in a kettle before adding it to the Moka pot. Using pre-heated water prevents the coffee from overheating on the stove, which can cause a bitter taste.

Step 2 Prepare the Pot
Unscrew the top chamber and remove the filter funnel from the base.

Step 3: Fill with Water
Fill the bottom base with water up to just below the safety release valve. Using pre-heated (hot) water is recommended to reduce heating time and avoid burning the coffee.

Step 4 : Add the coffee
Place the filter basket into the bottom chamber and add 18 grams freshly ground coffee (fine-medium grind). Level it out, do not tamp or press it down. The grounds should sit loosely and evenly in the basket.

Step 5: Assemble and heat
Screw the top and bottom chambers together firmly, then place the Moka pot on the stove over low to medium heat. Keep the lid open so you can watch the brew.

Step 6: Watch the flow
Coffee will begin to flow up through the spout in a steady, dark stream. This should take around 4:00–5:00 minutes. If it spurts aggressively or hisses loudly, your heat is too high, reduce the heat.

Step 7 Remove from heat
As soon as the coffee turns pale golden and starts to bubble, remove the Moka pot from the heat. Letting it run too long leads to a bitter taste.

Step 8: Serve and Enjoy
Stir the coffee in the upper chamber before serving to balance the flavour, then pour and enjoy.

Never use cold water straight from the tap, pre-boiling it gives you more control over the brew and a noticeably smoother cup.
